Becoming the Designated Calm Person™: Learning to Settle Ourselves and Others is the first in the series Cultivating Connections: Experiential Exercises for Home and Horse Barn. Lasell Jaretzki Bartlett includes education and step-by-step instructions for eighteen exercises for experiencing our survival states, sensations, personal resources, nervous system shifts, and more.
Bartlett calls us to become better for our relationships with people, horses, and other animals by developing our ability to shift to a calm state. We all need help to settle after a fall, injury, or any shocking change like the loss of a family member or pet. The presence of a calm person is a key element for this settling to occur.
Included are sample exercises from the next three workbooks in this series: Sensing Our Groundedness, After the Fall: Recovering Balance and Confidence, and Boundaries and Consent: Developing a Sense of Safety with Others.
Praise
I want to thank you for writing such a helpful, fun and useful book. All activities will be used in my workshops and individually with clients. So easy to read and understand. Can’t wait for the others to be published. Appreciate your work Lasell.

Lasell’s workbook, “Becoming the Designated Calm Person” arrived just before the hurricane! So many beautiful exercises to ground, orient to the present moment, feel sensations, access internal and external resource’s and more! Thank you, Lasell, for this resource that arrived “right on time”. I’m doing the exercises and they’re helping me settle and come back to the present moment—where I need to be right now!

Loved your audio exercises, Lasell. I played it to my brumby after haltering this arvo. She warmed to your voice and softened. So curious and interested. – Louise Moylan, Australia
